A vegan, paleo, and dairy-free recipe for 2 ingredient Acai Banana Ice Cream! Quick, easy, and best part… it’s healthy!
Remember how I told you about A.B. Biagi gelato in NYC?
And remember how I said he had two really amazing vegan options at his SoHo shop?
Please say yes, even if you need to lie a bit. Thanks 🙂
One of those vegan ice cream options was this super creamy, smooth, and intensely flavored Acai Banana.
And when I figured out that you can make ice cream just by processing the bejeebus out of frozen bananas in the food processor and whipped up this Paleo-friendly Nutella Banana Ice Cream, I knew acai-banana also needed to happen.
Besides being vegan, it’s also a paleo-friendly and dairy-free ice cream option. Woot. Woot.
And now listen. I’m not even going to try to make the argument that this vegan acai banana ice cream is anything remotely close to the genius that is Antonio Biagi’s version. It’s not.
Don’t get me wrong, this is good.
But Antonio is a sweet-genius-master-gelato-maker. He’s the man.
But for an at home, quick and healthy 2 ingredient ice cream, this will definitely hit the spot.
Just two quick tips for you…
1) Be patient with blending these bananas in the food processor. When you first start the frozen bananas in your processor, you’ll think that I’m crazy and this recipe stinks. But keep going. Be patient. Keep scraping down the sides. It takes a little while, but it will eventually transform into super creamy and smooth “ice cream”.
2) I find my frozen acai puree at Whole Foods. It comes in a four pack in the frozen foods aisle and looks like this. They have it here on Amazon (Sambazon Acai Smoothie Packs), but that’s like a crazy big 28 count of acai puree packs.

Vegan and Paleo Acai Banana Ice Cream
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 2-3 servings 1x
Instructions
- Make sure your bananas are very ripe. Peel and cut into small slices. Freeze for 1 to 2 hours, until completely frozen through. Transfer to a food processor along with the acai puree.
- Blend in food processor on high, scraping down the sides occasionally, until it reaches the consistency of smooth soft serve ice cream. Be patient, it will get there! Serve immediately or freeze for future consumption.
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
I want this ice cream now! But it’s still breakfast! 🙂 Looks amazing
I am so excited about this! My family loooooves the magic of instant-blender-banana ice creams, and this is a fantastic flavor twist. Quick, totally easy (just two ingredients!!!), and oh-so-healthy … you KNOW this is my kinda recipe! Pinning super-fast! Hey – killer-great pics, too – ice cream is NOT a photographer’s friend! – but these shots are fabulous! 😀
Thanks so much Shelley!
I totally want this for breakfast right about now. I’ll be on the lookout for the acai packs on my next Whole Foods run!
Sooo, I made your nutella version of this over the weekend, and I was obsessed! But I was a teensy bit lazy and used real nutella rather than make my own. But now I can’t get enough of these banana “ice creams”! Can’t wait to give this version a try : )
Hahaha using regular nutella is totally okay by me! Glad you liked it!!!
Oh, I’m so trying this! This is true guilt free ice cream! I’ve got lots of bananas, now I just need some acai. Thanks!!
I just made my banana ice cream, couple days ago, I just need to post about them, they are delicious!
Frozen banana is a true wonder! In summer months that’s my daily breakfast 🙂 will have to try acai version though!
I loves me some açai ice-cream and if it’s even paleo, how can I not love this recipe.
As always you’ve done a good job Sitting Wolf, Alpha is pleased.
Awooooooooooo!
I have to try this. I love this.
Wow! I’m pretty excited about this … I’m not sure I could find any acai puree where I am right now but I reckon many many other things could be added instead. Like nutella … yum yum!
LOVE the idea that this is only 2-ingredient … and so healthy!
nutella is a fantastic idea 🙂
I’ve never tried banana ice cream before, and I’m not really sure why? This looks so creamy and delicious!
Yes, more ice cream with bananas! I really don’t know how I haven’t tried that yet, but this looks and sounds amazing!
Dude you are channeling some delicious frozen banana recipes these days. I totally remember you talking about that gelato shop…and now you are a young grasshopper beginning the long journey to gelato greatness. Can I just ride your coattails to the top? Seriously…great job! P.S. I want to steal that yellow board.
You don’t have to steal the yellow board… it’s actually a piece of vinyl (2’x2′) that I got from Swanky Prints on Etsy. She sells all sorts of backdrops… that’s all I’ve been using the past few months. Loving their stuff!
I love this ice cream! I’ve literally got a freezer-full of frozen bananas so I will have to try this one soon! I kind of want it for breakfast this morning…LOL
Freezer full of bananas? You’re halfway there then! It’s so good for you, you CAN have it for breakfast!
Frozen banana treats are kind of my life. I don’t make the ice cream a lot, but I make smoothies with them 3-4 times a week. Basically, I torture my food processor.
Hahaha your food processor works overtime!
Banana ice-cream is my very favorite yum! I love this acai version! xx
Okay two ingredients?! And healthy?? So all over this! I love banana ice creams, but the acai berry sounds like the best version yet. My mom grew up in Brazil and is obsessed with acai so naturally we all are too. Definitely sharing with her this recipe!
Acai berry has such a delicious unique flavor… glad you guys are all fans of it too!
This looks delicious! I’ve tried acai before. I’m all for trying new ice creams, especially healthy ones. 🙂
Getting crazy with your banana pairings! This also looks like such a healthy refreshing summer treat.
I just had a dairy-free coconut lavender ice cream at an ice cream shop…wonder if I can turn that into banana ice cream??? HMMMM
Wonderful blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers?
I’m hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you recommend starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option?
There are so many choices out there that I’m totally confused ..
Any tips? Cheers!
I personally use WordPress and love it, but paid for a theme to customize my site. You can read all about it here: https://sharedappetite.com/how-to-start-a-food-blog/
