Avocados: A Lunch Steal

Hey all my Long Island friends!  I wanted to let you all in on one of the best lunch deals around.  When I'm at work, I'm a bring my lunch from home type of guy.  However, when I'm off from work during the week, I like to let loose for lunch and get a little crazy.  But who likes spending dinner prices at lunch?  I'm looking for a deal... and when a friend from church let me in on his go to place, I had to give it a try.

Sharing the same owners as Bayport's Satellite Pizza, Avocados serves up a large menu of burritos, tacos, and the other typical Mexican grill fare.  Located on Montauk Hwy just steps from Nicolls Road, it's a great place for a quick lunch at a ridiculously great price.

The interior is bright and cozy, with a couple of tables as well as countertop seating.

Although the regular prices on the menu are a bit steep  ($8-$10 for a burrito, for instance), the lunch deal of $5.99 is quite amazing.  Included in the deal is your choice of any burrito, tacos, or taco salad, AND a soft drink with free refills.

My favorite item to order is the Grilled Chicken Taco Salad.  A bed of mixed greens is smothered with black beans, grilled chicken, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, and cheddar cheese, surrounded by a wall of tortilla chips.  It's served with a little side of this delicious cilantro-lime dressing and if you ask for it, hot sauce.

If you are sporting a major appetite, go for the Juan Burrito: pulled pork, spinach, bacon, rice, salsa, cheese, scallions, lettuce, cilantro-lime dressing, and hot sauce!  The rice is a mushy sub-par mess, but the pork and other fillings make up for it (although I think the Roast Pork burrito from Salsa Salsa just down the road is a bit better).  Still, this is a great burrito at a great price.
